Those people who are desirous to make their contribution in the field of sculpting but feel it hard to do with real clay, polymer clay is a perfect reciprocal. Polymer clay which is not earthen clay, in fact is basically composed of PVC and it is named as clay only for the reason that it looks like clay and its physical properties are similar to that of earthen clay.
A
factor which is very interesting about cheap polymer clay is its availability in many colors. Metallic & iridescent shades
are prepared by addition of mica in the mixture. It is so easy to work on
polymer clay for peoples of every age group. Since the cheap polymer clay
is easily available everywhere, sculpting lovers like to use it.
This
clay is protected by baking it at low temperatures of about 230 to 250 degrees
Celsius. Once it is passed through the process, it acquires hardness and
becomes available for long term usage. Surface of unbaked clay which is
left at the bottom can be mixed up with baked product and can be re-processed
without fear of any damage to it. It is needed to discuss here that if the clay is
cured at extra high temperatures, it causes evolvement of fumes from it which
are hazardous for humans. On the other hand, if the temperature is correctly
maintained one will feel only an irritating smell of it.
Polymer
clay was firstly introduced by the doll makers in 1930s when they were told
that there is no plastic available for their work. Unluckily, the first
experiment with it was failed due to some chemical disequilibrium and was later
used for making Fimo. With the passage of time, usage of polymer clay remained
in fashion for the art of sculpting and model making. In other words polymer
was left for usage of artists only after 1960. Although over a 50 years are
lapsed but still it is used in different ways by the artists and not in the
original composition. Methods and tactics for usage of polymer are mostly
improvised. Convent ally, polymer is used for the purpose of sculpting, but
many artists avoid its usage and prefer other types of clay for the purpose.
Cheap
polymer clay can be utilized to sculpt certain things, like figurines, frames
or pictures, European beads wholesale, ball pen casings and much more. Bead & jewelry making is
the usage of polymer clay as well. European beads wholesale are a famous type of beads made by
polymer. The art of sculpting is a real art and since the clay is not too
costly, a person fond of this art need not to spend too much money for this
expedition.
All that is
required to a person in hobby of sculpting is just few packets of clay and the
art in are mind. Few helping articles that can make working on polymer clay
easier include rolling pin, crafting knife and may be some wax paper. Such items that are also used in kitchen like rolling
pin and cookie sheet etc. if once used in sculpting should not be reused in
kitchen.
